Scent training gives your dog an outlet for one of their most natural behaviours while building confidence, problem-solving skills and teamwork. And let’s be honest, watching your dog work out a scent puzzle is pretty bloody brilliant.
At Nutter Dogs, we offer both mantrailing and scentwork, so there’s plenty of opportunity to find the type of scent training that suits you and your dog.

MANTRAILING
Fancy tracking down a missing person?

Mantrailing teaches your dog to follow the unique scent of a particular person and track them down – their “missing person.”
Your dog takes the lead, following their nose and making the decisions while you learn how to read and work with them. It’s a brilliant way to build confidence, improve your teamwork and give your dog a seriously satisfying mental workout.
And because only one dog works at a time, it’s also a great activity for dogs who prefer a bit of space from their fellow canines.
Sessions take place at a variety of locations around Burnley & Pendle, using both urban and rural environments to give your dog different challenges to work through.
Scentwork

2 hour workshop | £30
Scentwork gives your dog the chance to search, sniff and solve scent-based challenges using their incredible natural ability.
We’ll teach you how to introduce your dog to scent detection and build their skills through different searches and challenges. It’s a great activity for dogs who love to sniff, think and work things out for themselves – which, let’s face it, is most dogs.
Scentwork can be adapted to suit different dogs and abilities, making it a fun way to provide mental stimulation and build confidence without needing your dog to be particularly sporty or speedy.
Why scent training?
Scent work isn’t just about tiring your dog out – although there’s a very good chance you’ll have a very sleepy dog afterwards.
It can help to:

- Give dogs who aren’t keen on traditional sports something they can really get their teeth into
And there’s something pretty special about letting your dog take the lead and seeing just how much they can work out when we give them the opportunity.
Is scent training right for my dog?
Pretty much any dog with a nose can give it a go! Your dog doesn’t need perfect obedience, a particular breed or loads of previous training. Scent training can be adapted for different ages, abilities and experience levels.
For mantrailing, your dog will need to be comfortable waiting their turn safely in your vehicle and able to take food from another person. If your dog is nervous around strangers, you can bring someone they already trust to act as their misper. Dogs work on lead one at a time so mantrailing is very easily adapted for dogs who need space from other dogs or don’t have strong recall.
